“Easter is my favourite time of the year.”

Easter is my favourite time of the year. How can we keep quiet about Jesus’ resurrection power?! But it can be challenging to share the amazing good news of Jesus when working with limited budgets. We’ve found some egg-cellent, affordable and meaningful ways to shell-berate Easter with your community this year, let’s hatch a plan!

  1. Visit Your Local Scrapstore
    Cost: £10
Scrapstores offer a treasure trove of craft materials at a low cost. Gather supplies for Easter crafts and card-making sessions that children and families can enjoy together.
  2. Planting Seeds
Cost: £1.50 for 75 Zinnia seeds from Suttons.
Host a seed-planting activity where people can plant their own seeds to take home or give to a friend. You can also create a small leaflet to invite people to your Easter celebrations too.
  3. Chalk Pavement Art
Cost: £2 for 20 chalks at The Works
Encourage creativity by inviting local children to decorate pavements around your church with Easter-themed chalk art. It’s a fun and accessible way to brighten up your area and share the Easter story visually.
  4. Decorate and Hide Rocks
Cost: £6.95 for 20 painting stones, Pearlised Porcelain Paint Pens £8.95, both from Baker Ross.
Organise a rock-painting session where you can decorate stones with Easter symbols and messages. Hide them around the community for others to find. Add a hashtag for social media if you want to see where your stones end up!
  5. Easter Peg Hunt
Cost: £2 for 36 wooden pegs from Dunelm. You will need 6 pegs per child.
Replace traditional Easter egg hunts with an Easter peg hunt! Decorate pegs in different colours and hide them around your neighbourhood or park. Children need to find one of each colour, and they can even spell out a message if you’re feeling very creative! Make sure to buy wooden pegs, which will last and are less problematic if not found.
  6. Use an Already Planned Easter Trail
    Cost: Free to £30
Save time by using pre-planned Easter trails from organisations like the Bible Society, Faith in Parents, Roots for Churches, or Go Chatter. These trails are free or low-cost and provide ready-made activities that help tell the Easter story in an interactive way.
  7. Egg Rolling
Cost: around £2 per half dozen
Take inspiration from the Lancashire tradition of egg rolling. Hard-boil some eggs, decorate them, and host a rolling competition in a local park or on church grounds. Learn more about this tradition here.

So, gather your supplies, hatch a plan, and get cracking on an unforgettable Easter celebration. Wishing you an egg-cellent and blessed Easter filled with love, laughter, and new beginnings!
