We all want our churches to grow, to be places where people of all backgrounds can belong, contribute and encounter Jesus, no matter where they are on their faith journey. And we all want communities of joy, justice and right relationships where the work of the Holy Spirit is evident.

But how do we make that happen?

The FREE free Growing Good Toolkit is designed to help churches connect the dots between social action, discipleship and growth. Drawing on a three year research project from CUF and Theos, the six sessions look at characteristics shared by churches across England that are growing in number, depth and impact.

Each session includes reflection on scripture, time for discussion, inspiring stories from local churches and simple next steps. The sessions are flexible, practical and easy to use, and the Training Hub for group leaders provides everything you need to get started.

The six sessions are:

  1. PresenceBeing seen and known for doing good.
  2. Perseverance – Being faithful in the long-term.
  3. Hospitality – Building a culture of giving and receiving.

  4.  Adaptability – Being open to challenge and change.

  5. Participation – Inviting everyone to be part of what’s going on.

  6. Next StepsReflect on the things you have learned from the sessions.

Growing Good helps churches grow in knowledge about their local community, grow in confidence for mission, and grow new and deeper relationships. This leads to Growing Good has helped churches to reflect, celebrate, and step out to listen to and serve their community.

“We found it incredibly encouraging to hear the stories of others who were doing simple things to connect to their community and connect their community to faith. We reflected on our presence as a community and the many ways we are present, and this inspired voices that otherwise wouldn’t be heard to suggest new ideas. We also developed a deeper desire to listen to our community … how we can be people who listen to our community and play our part in seeing this community flourish.” Rev Dan Scott, Christchurch Three Mills, East London
