The Welcome Directory

Have you ever wondered how your church can best support those leaving the UK prison system? Tim Mycock has worked with prison leavers for over 20 years and offers some valuable practical and spiritual tips.

Spotlight Course Discipleship

As Head of Prison Ministry for The Message Trust, I regularly receive slightly panicked emails from church and community leaders explaining that someone is coming out of prison and they don’t know how to help!

My first response is always the same – “love them”. The reality is that many churches already have prison leavers amongst them, but maybe the leadership just doesn’t know! Romans 3:23-24 says that “all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, and all are justified by his grace”. There’s not a lot of difference between “them” and “us”, it’s just that those in custody got caught and the rest of us didn’t. Or maybe, our sins aren’t considered as big by the legal system. Either way, we’re called to love.

On a more practical note, The Welcome Directory is a great resource and network for churches and other faith communities to get equipped to support prison leavers, through their free training and downloads. The website hosts a directory of churches that are equipped, checked and ready to welcome prison leavers into their midst. It’s a great resource for prison chaplains and as associates of The Welcome Directory, The Message Trust uses the directory of registered churches to help us link up those who have given their lives to Jesus in prison too.

So, why not get registered to support you in your ministry, and to enable prison leavers who are looking for a loving, supportive community to find a home in Jesus?
