When so many people need so much help giving to charities and good causes can sometimes feel overwhelming and hard. Acts 435 puts people who want to help in touch with people who are in need. Steve Shaw a local advocate in Blackpool tells us more.

St John's Church Blackpool

Blackpool has a population of over 140,000 people. Originally founded as a place of healing, poor health has become the foremost indicator of deprivation.

Here at Blackpool Church we are delighted and privileged to partner with Acts 435. Through the generosity of people all over the UK, this national charity enables the local church to provide practical support for people in need, such as white goods, clothing or transport, and all these small gifts impact people in our community.

It clearly demonstrates to each recipient that somebody cares, and this is really important to people on a journey of transformation. The opportunity to ask for ongoing prayer, and also to thank donors, is also an essential part of the process.

In our experience, people on the receiving end of such generosity are ‘blown away’ by these amazing acts of kindness and it points them to believe that God does care, and provides hope in the midst of severe deprivation.

For some people, Acts 435 can be viewed as the provision of a ‘hand out’, but for many others, it is seen as a ‘hand up’, and we have seen this as many have wanted to find out more about this God whom we serve. We believe that for many people such provision is a crucial step forward in their ongoing faith journey.
