Waiting for wonder

Christmas. 

When God moves house the furthest distance in all of infinity: 

Heaven to earth.

And faced with all of human history and geography, the spinning miles that span the globe and all of the star studded expanse of space, all human events of drama and conquest and glory… where is it he chooses to go? 

A forgotten place. A quiet and small space. Where ordinary people, with ordinary lives, are waiting. Waiting with longing so great that it aches. 

He chooses to come here. Moves in among our wheelie bins and our deflated footballs. Among hearts scarred and dragging, heavy with disappointment. He stands beside his child with barely lifted head. He stands and he feels it all too.

And then in the quiet, he whispers.

“Can you hear them singing? The angels?”

“The wait is over. 

Oh yearning heart be still. 

He’s here. 

He’s here with all his wonders. 

Jesus.

Jesus is here.”
